Another rainforest sketch : I wanted to see how a character would look "lost" in the jungle.

I figured out how to add my own plants separately and bring in an explorer for scale. Animators nightmare I know....I'll try a more friendly version someday maybe.

One of my first doodles in Z brush.......just straight ahead add and subtract / dynamesh to keep it workable....approximately a 6 hour sketch .
I wanted to create a mini organic environment to illustrate how it would be nice to integrate items like trees rocks and groundplane as though they actually grew together and around each other rather than just building one or two of each "asset" and trying to assemble something that looked natural. It may be easier to just populate a flat groundplane with modular trees and rocks.....but it just wouldn't look the same !
A few more for fun

Well.......It's been ages.

I haven't posted much since starting on the Nutjob Movie.......but since the trailer is out there now I think it's safe to post a few images from early development work. I don't think I'm spoiling anything now by letting it slip that squirrels steal some nuts.

It's been an interesting couple of years which I put the pencil down and picked up a guitar for the first time ever. Maybe I'll post a few original youtube vids later.

Currently in development on about a dozen or more things....a few of which are my own......and enjoying the easy pleasures of Zbrush. What an amazing program.....once you get around their unique use of English terminology you can be sculpting away in 10 minutes.

I'll post some turntables later......for now enjoy a few story sketches from very early Nutjob work.

I haven't posted anything in a long while....partly because of the NDA on my latest project......but I'll get back to drawing my own stuff again in 2013.

In the meantime enjoy a poem from my favourite poet  :

"The sky has the birds,
  the ocean has the reef,
the forest has the flowers,
but still...
I have poetry, and the
sky,ocean and the forest
could never compare.
They have nothing next to me."

Flight 8 is in stores now !

Kazu Kibuishi has been publishing and editing Flight since 2004 and this issue will be his last as he continues on with other projects. Read a great interview with Kazu here :

These are the complete pages  from my take on the old Rabbit / Turtle rivalry.......check your local bookstores for a copy !

I started using Storyboard Pro software to draw boards on Dan VS and I LOVE it ! The ability to juggle scene order freely is a wonderful thing / not to mention easy re-numbering and camera moves. The ability to copy forward individual layers of art makes for a more pleasing leica for sure. The following are just a few panels I saved......there weren't any location designs for any of this so what you see is often a bit more than a normal panel since I was handing off panels to their studios design dept to use as roughs.
